Purchasing oneself a gift on one's own wishlist
Does this destroy the universe? Is it acceptable to simply delete the gift? What happens if it's reserved?

Buying a gift from your wishlist should be done at your own risk 
I could maybe add a thing that warns you on delete, but then you would know that someone might be getting that particular gift for you.
Right now it works such that if a gift is deleted, it is removed from the reservations list of the user who reserved it.

I get it.
Maybe e-mail a notice to people if they have a reserved gift which is deleted?
I will try not to purchase things I've added very often!
